Kate and William didn’t come to Toronto during last summer’s royal visit, but Toronto went to them, in a shape of a 692-diamond set of polar bear cufflinks and brooch.
Celebrity jeweler Harry Winston crafted the bling from diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories, owned 40 per cent by the Harry Winston Diamond Corporation of Toronto.

The pave diamond set, described as “a polar bear silhouette beneath a semicircle representing the Northern Lights,” was presented to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge by N.W.T. Premier Floyd Roland.
Clarence House, the official website for the Prince of Wales, his sons and Kate, has released the list of all the gifts the royal couple collected in their cross-Canada tour with one or two word descriptions.
This has incensed the British tabloids, who smell a cover-up in just describing the widely reported diamond encrusted extravagance as a “brooch” and “cufflinks.”
Kate and Wills also collected 35 unspecified books, caribou antler snow goggles and a wardrobe of five T-shirts, two pairs of sweaters, three hockey jerseys, a dress, a few pairs of shoes and nine hats — including, of course, the Calgary Stampede white ten-gallon jobs that looks so photogenic.
Hat fancier Kate also went home with two fascinators — one in peacock feathers and one in tartan.
The Minister of Health, Leona Aglukkaq, chipped in two mosquito traps and the Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, gave the newlyweds a woolen blanket, a framed photograph, souvenir editions of Canadian magazines, two jackets, a flag and a bottle of whiskey.
